What is prosthetics?

Prosthodontics is a specialised field within modern dentistry that deals with the diagnosis, planning and restoration of teeth that are missing, severely damaged or non-vital. This field involves the fabrication and placement of crowns, bridges, dentures and other dental restorations that restore both the appearance and function of the teeth.

At Dentatime Clinic, we carry out prosthetic work following a thorough consultation and treatment plan, taking into account each patient’s health.

What types of prosthetic procedures do we perform?

Prosthetic dentistry at the Dentatime clinic covers the treatment of problems caused by missing, damaged or non-vital teeth. Our solutions vary according to the individual needs of each patient and can be summarised into several main categories.

Dental crowns and bridges

Metal-ceramic crowns are a classic option for restoring the function and shape of teeth. At Dentatime Clinic, we offer advanced metal-ceramic options that minimise the drawbacks of traditional designs – the well-known darkening of the gum line around the crown due to oxidative processes in the mouth, lower light transmission, and the likelihood of an allergic reaction to the metal alloy.

This is a precision-crafted dental crown, with a ceramic coating on the edge and a precious metal plating on its inner surface. A metal-ceramic dental bridge is an excellent choice for restoring missing teeth, using the adjacent teeth at the site of the missing tooth, or dental implants, as supports.

Adhesive bridges

An adhesive bridge is a minimally invasive solution for replacing one or two missing teeth, which does not require extensive grinding of the adjacent teeth. The structure is bonded to the adjacent teeth using special adhesive techniques, preserving as much of the natural tooth structure as possible.

Combined prosthetics

Combined prosthetics is a combination of fixed prostheses (crowns, bridges) and removable elements, which is suitable for complex clinical cases. This approach ensures optimal functionality and aesthetics by utilising the advantages of different types of restorations.

Removable prosthetics

Removable prosthetics are carried out using various types of removable dentures.

Soft ThermoSens prostheses (silicone)

Silicone dentures represent a modern alternative to standard plastic removable dentures. This modern material offers numerous advantages – exceptional lightness, high aesthetics thanks to invisible retention elements (clasps), a shatterproof construction and hypoallergenic properties, meaning it does not cause allergic reactions.

Plastic dentures (partial or full)

A traditional, quick and cost-effective solution for dental prosthetics. Three-layer teeth are used in the manufacture of these dentures, giving the structures a more natural appearance and greater strength.

Night guards for bruxism

This is a recommended solution for bruxism (teeth grinding or clenching). The fabrication of soft or hard splints is part of the comprehensive treatment of bruxism, as it may also involve raising the bite with crowns or onlays and medication. This protects the teeth from further wear, tooth abrasion and sensitivity.

Snoring and Apnoea Treatment with Silensor-sl (Snoreguard) – ERKODENT

This is a clinically tested device that is effective in eliminating snoring and apnoea. The custom-made splints for both jaws are connected laterally by two links, which move the lower jaw forward and create space for more air to enter the lungs.

The soft tissues do not vibrate (causing snoring), whilst the patient is able to move their lower jaw. This makes the device extremely comfortable and highly effective – it reduces snoring by up to 90% and sleep apnoea by up to 50%.

When do we need prosthetics?

Dental prosthetics are necessary in various situations.

The main cases are:

  • The loss of one or more teeth.
  • Severely damaged teeth that cannot be restored with a filling.
  • Devitalised teeth following root canal treatment that require reinforcement.
  • Broken teeth.
  • Severely worn teeth due to bruxism.
  • Aesthetic problems – discoloured, misshapen or unattractive teeth.
  • Need to raise the bite in cases of worn-down teeth.
  • Following implant treatment, when the implants need to be covered with crowns.

It is important to consult a specialist in good time to avoid complications such as tooth movement, bite problems or bone loss.

How does the process work?

The prosthetic process at Dentatime Clinic is structured and designed to ensure maximum comfort and excellent results.

Initial consultation and diagnosis

During your first visit, a detailed examination of the condition of your teeth and gums is carried out, including an X-ray. We discuss your concerns and expectations and select the most suitable solution for your case.

Treatment planning

Following the diagnosis, a personalised treatment plan is drawn up, which includes the type of restoration, materials, number of appointments and approximate timelines. If necessary, a digital smile design is created so that you can preview the expected result.

Tooth preparation

When the original tooth is severely damaged, with only the root remaining, dental posts are used before placing crowns. These provide a stable foundation for the prosthetic restoration and extend the life of the tooth.

Fabrication in the dental laboratory

The impressions are sent to a dental laboratory, where experienced dental technicians fabricate the customised restoration according to the precise parameters and the chosen material.

At Dentatime Clinic, we use one of the most advanced, latest models of intraoral scanners, which provide information on the movements of the lower jaw and the contacts between the teeth of both jaws, and are also used in digital implantology for comprehensive treatment with dental implants.

Finalisation

Once the prosthesis is ready, it is fitted, and the fit, occlusion (bite) and aesthetics are checked. If necessary, fine adjustments are made to achieve complete comfort, as offered by established aesthetic dental medicine of the highest standard.

Advantages of prosthetic dentistry

Prosthetic dentistry offers a number of benefits for the patient.

At Dentatime Clinic, you receive:

Functional restoration – restoration of normal chewing, speech and jaw function.

Aesthetic smile – natural-looking restorations that fit perfectly into your smile.

Prevention of adjacent teeth shifting following tooth loss.

Improved self-confidence and quality of life.

Long-lasting solutions with proper maintenance and oral hygiene.

Can be combined with implant treatment for optimal results.

Dental prosthetics not only restore lost teeth, but also protect the remaining teeth from excessive strain and prevent further complications in the future.

Preliminary preparation

Preliminary preparation is required before starting prosthetic treatment.

This may include:

Root canal treatment for teeth with damaged nerves.

Removal of old crowns or fillings.

Treatment of the gums and periodontal tissues in the event of inflammation.

Professional cleaning and dental hygiene.

Extraction of teeth that cannot be saved.

Where necessary – implant treatment for the placement of implants to serve as a foundation for future restorations.

Preparation is an important step that ensures a sound foundation for prosthetic treatment and the long-term success of the restorations.
